Setting Up An eBay Shop

To set up a shop and sell on eBay you need to register to become an eBay member and then become a seller.

To become a seller you'll need to have the following:

Sellers who already have an established business: Business sellers

You can still open an eBay Shop straight away even if you don’t have a feedback rating. You cannot however use eBay's Shop Inventory Format (SIF) until you have feedback rating of at least 10 or have a PayPal account linked to your eBay account with a feedback rating of at least 5.

Sellers who don’t have an established business: Non-business sellers

You should have a Direct Debit or Credit Card on file to pay eBay fees and a feedback rating of at least 10 or have a PayPal account linked to your eBay account and have a feedback rating of at least 5.

1. Subscribe to eBay Shops

Once you have registered with eBay, you should then subscribe to an eBay shop. NOTE: In order to subscribe using this link, you must first log into eBay using the account details you registered with.

Choose a subscription level

Basic Shop - An entry-level solution for eBay sellers who want to open an online shop.

Featured Shop - All the benefits of a Basic Shop, plus more advanced business tools to help accelerate sales growth.

Anchor Shop - The solution for high-volume merchants seeking maximum sales

2. Choose a shop name

The name you choose determines your Shop's website address (URL). For example, if your Shop's name is "Simon’s Sportswear", your Store's URL is: http://stores.ebay.co.uk/simons-sportswear.

eBay will take out special characters (apostrophes, spaces, &, !, $, etc.), add hyphens between words, and make all letters lowercase. When choosing your shop name try to include the type of product you are selling such as “Gill’s Golfing Supplies” this will help search engines locate it.

3. Select your payment method

If you want to use PayPal to accept credit card payments online, eBay recommends signing up before you list your first item for sale.

You can pay your seller fees using any of the following payment methods:

• PayPal (monthly and one-time payments)
• Direct Debit from your bank account (monthly and one-time payments)
• Credit Card (monthly and one-time payments)
• Cheque or postal order
